The inaugural Yuengling Chili Cook-Off was the theme for the GolfTalk Live Party on Thursday, November 6. Listeners were invited to bring in a sampling of their finest homemade chili to compete in a contest – with voting by the patrons on hand at Black Cat Cigars. The winner received a $50 gift certificate from Redstone American Grill.

If you have ever been to a GolfTalk Live party before, then you can guess that the wine and cigar party at Black Cat Cigars was nothing short of an extravaganza. The wine was flowing, the cigars blazing and all in attendance enjoyed delicious tomato pie from Mama Venezia in Norristown.
Watching the final round of the British Open on Sunday morning is a long, enjoyable stretch of relaxation. Of course, spending that many hours in front of the television, takes its toll on the body. A tremendous hunger can develop.
Anyone who has ever been lucky enough to attend the Masters at Augusta National knows that there is more tradition associated with this tournament than another other. From the green buildings, to the little green folding chairs, to the azaleas, to Magnolia Lane. To echo a phrase, “It is a tradition like no other.”
You all know the scene. The guys start talking about getting away from the winter weather for a golf trip to a warm location. There is immediate excitement – except for the guy with the sheepish look on his face. He’s dying for the conversation to get back to the basketball game, or politics, or even work.
It is always a treat whenever Nicky G, the Official Gastronome of the GolfTalk Live radio show drops by one of our live remote broadcasts. In real life, he is Nick Giovanangelo — the proper, subdued, sophisticated proprietor of Inside Jewelers on West Chester Pike in Broomall.
It is one of my favorite Sunday mornings of the year … and it doesn’t include playing golf. Go figure. But we will be watching plenty of golf. It is British Open Sunday and that means plenty of golf on the television and plenty of food and drink on the table.
